The main part is Laurencekirk, the heart of the Mearns. It has been developing at a fast and furious rate for about 5 years now. There is an academy called Mearns with about 650 pupils and headed by Ian Parkin, a true legend. There is also a well-attended primary school. Recently, the railway station was refurbished, rejuvenated and re-opened to the public, making it easier for the local commuters. Laurencekirk has a new skatepark, astro-turf and football field and a newly-built playpark for the toddlers. There are a few shops for yer shopping and four pubs for a wee dram. There is also a community centre too! A few chippies and an industrial park. In general, a fab place to live,

Auchenblae is our local lovely wee town built on a hill. There is a primary school and a lot of houses. There is a great nine-hole golf course and a lovely play area called The Den. A tri-monthly newsletter called The Auchenblae Messenger provides the locals with a fair few bits of information. Combined with a bucketload of community spirit and a lot of friendly faces, Auchenblae is another lovely place to reside.
What can we say about Fordoun? There is a small school and a nice newly-painted underpass. Castleton Farm Shop provides the village with lovely food and a wee pubbie providing the drink.
Arbuthnott is a small village on the estate of Arbuthnott. It is the home of Lewis Grassic Gibbon, the man who spawned the Lewis Grassic Gibbon Centre. Apart from a few stray cats, there's nothing much else.
Fettercairn is a small village on the foothills of the Drumtochty Forest. It has a distillery, which takes its water supply from the hills. It has a small school and the Famous Arch, recently restoned. There is a pub, the Ramsay Arms and a nice little coffee shop. There is also a nice wee play park for all ages.
Edzell Woods - a very, very, VERY small hamlet with a defunct American air base. Apart from a playpark there are no community facilites, no shops and a pub which is under refurbishments. There is a childcare provisions.
In Luthermuir, a fairly nice place, there is a small school, a pub, a weekly post office IN the pub and a very good community hall with good play facilities.
Marykirk is a progressing village which has a good hotel, a small school with a low number of pupils and a nice big river flowing beside it. Many people like to journey to the pub, equipped with a pool table. Not much else except a couple of stray cats. But in the spring, all of the folks go out and pick the daffies and in the summer they have a raft race. What fun!
St Cyrus is a lovely village right next to the beack. Good cliffs to have a golf-hitting competition (not that we're giving you any ideas now ;) There is a Spar and a park and a fine hotel and hall too. There is a school too - fairly big, if I am to be honest. Obviously, the cats enjoy roaming here too.
